St.Mary’s Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, Karickom in the Major Archdiocese of Trivandrum belongs to the Ecclesiastical district of Kottarakkara was established in 1936 – Blessed by venerable Mar Ivanios Thirumeni, the founder of the Malankara Catholic Church, was a visionary leader, scholar, and saintly prelate who led the Reunion Movement that brought a section of the Malankara Syrian Church into communion with the Catholic Church in 1930. He founded Bethany Ashram in 1919 and Bethany sisters congregation in 1925. As we gratefully look back on our sacred journey of faith and fellowship, we joyfully step into the 90th year (Navathi) of our parish community.
The Karickom Malankara Catholic Church was originally the family church of Rt. Rev.Fr. Alexander Valiyaveettil Corepiscopo in the Jacobite Church. After the historic reunion of Mar Ivanios Thirumeni with the Catholic Church from the Orthodox faith, this family generously handed over the church along with its 53 cents of land, completely free of cost, to Mar Ivanios Thirumeni for the growth of the reunited Malankara Catholic community.The first missionary of this parish was Rev. Fr. Alexander Valiyaveettil Corepiscopo, whose pioneering spiritual work and tireless efforts strengthened the foundations of the Church in Karikkam.

The St. George Shrine is situated in front of the church, serving as a place of devotion and blessing for the faithful.
Another shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Pietà is located along the M.C. Road at the Karickom Junction, offering a serene space for prayer and reflection.

Padayatra

Padayatra in Commemoration of Venerable Mar Ivanios Thirumeni
In memory of the Venerable Mar Ivanios Thirumeni, the pioneer of the Reunion Movement and the father of the Malankara Catholic Church, a Padayatra (pilgrimage walk) is held every year.
This sacred journey begins from St. Mary’s Malankara Catholic Church, Ranni-Perunad, where Mar Ivanios Thirumeni spent his life many years, and proceeds all the way to Pattom, Trivandrum, where his mortal remains are entombed. The faithful walk this blessed path in prayer, singing hymns and meditating on the life and mission of Mar Ivanios Thirumeni, whose vision united faith and culture under one Church.
On the way, the Padayatra pilgrims reach Karikkam Church, where they are warmly welcomed by our parish community. A special prayer service is conducted in remembrance of Mar Ivanios Thirumeni, invoking his intercession for the Church and the faithful. Following the prayer, refreshments and tiffin are lovingly served to the Padayatra participants by the parish, as an expression of hospitality and fellowship. After a brief rest and thanksgiving, the pilgrims continue their journey towards Pattom, carrying the spiritual legacy of the great Thirumeni in their hearts.

We remember with reverence the holy vision of Venerable Mar Ivanios Thirumeni and the tireless efforts of all our priests, religious, and faithful who have built and nurtured this parish over the decades.
Guided by the example of His Eminence Cardinal Baselios Cleemis Catholicos Bava Thirumeni, our spiritual father and shepherd, we renew our commitment to live as a community of prayer, faith, and love, ever devoted to the Gospel mission of Christ.
